If there was one thing I could tell my pre-child self it would be to enjoy and really relish how simple life is when you only have yourself to worry about.
Three years and two children later I constantly wish I had more time. A few extra bonus hours at the end of every day. Do all parents feel like that? I look at my watch at 5pm, panic that once again I’m late for nursery pick up and instantly wish it was still 3pm. There isn’t enough hours in the day to do everything.
Which is why Don’t Buy Her Flowers is the best gift anyone could buy a busy, frazzled mum. Not just new mums or working mums, any mum.
With Mother’s Day just a few weeks away this is the perfect present.
I excitedly danced around the kitchen when my parcel arrived. The idea behind these gifts is brilliant – it completely made my day!
I received the The Date Night In package, which includes candles, truffles, massage oil and champagne (or red/ white wine if you’d prefer). There was a card reading “Open Me” inside which included a £35 COOK food voucher.
For anyone who hasn’t heard of COOK they create delicious, homemade food, delivered straight to your door. Perfect to put in your freezer and pull out when you want a tasty, hassle-free home cooked meal. Simple but luxurious. You can choose to add a £35, £55 or £75 food voucher to any gift.
The Date Night In package costs £29.50 and includes:
Belgian Choconchoc truffles – a trio of salted caramel, triple chocolate brownie and strawberry champagne. They all tasted immense, my favourite was salted caramel.
Heaven Scent lavender massage oil – perfect for tired, worn out mums. The smell is so soothing, a great way to relax and drift off to sleep quickly and peacefully.
A bottle of champagne Canard Duchess Brut – I love a good fizz so this went down a treat. Nice and fruity, very easy to drink, definitely a bottle I would buy again.
Love & Peace aromatherapy candles with citrus, geranium, patchouli and orange essential oils. Despite being small tea lights they made the entire downstairs of my house smell divine for hours!
If, like me, you’ve never brought food from COOK before you’re in for a treat. I love cooking but rarely have time with a baby and a toddler in tow.
I decided to drive to my local COOK shop to have a proper nosey around – but you can easily order online. Their menu is divided into beef, lamb, chicken, pork, fish and vegetarian with a wide variety of classics – lasagne, chilli con carne, shepherds pie, coq au vin, sausage casserole, fish pie, mushroom risotto. Also curries, Thai, Indian, Chinese meals, hotpots, starters, low calorie options and children/ baby meals. You’re spoilt for choice with deserts options including roulades, cheesecakes, mousses, crumbles, tray bakes, ice creams.
As a guide, £35 could buy five meals for two. There are gluten free and dairy free options available too.
With my £35 gift voucher I bought two large dinners – fish pie and coq au vin, two smaller dinners – Japanese salmon and Lebanese chicken with olives and peppers, two deserts – red berry mousse and salted caramel, chocolate & honeycomb cheesecake and a lemon drizzle slice tray bake. The price came to £35.49.
I would love to receive a care package from Don’t Buy Her Flowers for Mother’s Day. There are 15 gift boxes to choose from with prices starting at £18.50. Check out www.dontbuyherflowers.com for more details.
